Akhilesh Yadav to be new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh

Akhilesh Yadav, a 38-year-old environmental engineer from Sydney, will be sworn in as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on on 15 March, 2012. Akhilesh Yadav, son of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mulayam Singh,will be the youngest chief minister of the country's most populous state. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj in a by-election in 2000. He retained his seat in the 2004 and 2009 general elections.

He was born to Mulayam Singh Yadav and Malti Devi on 1 July 1973 in the Saifai village of Etawah ditrict. Although he lost his mother but gained a lot in the short span of his life. Akhilesh is married and has three children - two daughters and one son. He studied at the Military School Dholpur, Rajasthan. He earned Bachelor degree in engineering from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore and later opted for a Masters in environmental engineering from the University of Sydney.
