Indian girl Razia Sultan of Meerut receives the first UN Malala Award

On 13 July 2013, a young girl from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was awarded the first UN Malala Award for educating child labourers. Miss Sultan, 15, will be felicitated as United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education's Youth Courage Award for Education.
12th of July was designated as Malala Day, to honor the efforts of Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan, who was shot at by the Taliban for sharing her views against the latter's ban on girls attending schools in the Swat Valley.After having been a child labourer herself, she was rescued by an NGO, when she joined a school and later become a youth leader. She is now trying to solve the problems of the schools and the children. She went to different regions as a youth leader of an NGO and carried out door-to-door campaigns on child education.
