M.S Swaminathan gets Indira Gandhi National Integration Award


Eminent, the 88-year-old agricultural scientist, Dr. M S Swaminathan, recognized as the father of India’s Green Revolution, won the 2012 28th Indira Gandhi National Integration Award in New Delhi.
Swaminathan received several awards and has served as Director of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) New Delhi (1966-72) and Department of Agricultural Research and Education (1972-79) Secretary to the Government of India.
A plant geneticist by training, the contributions made by Professor Swaminathan to India 's agricultural revival, and widely referred to as the intellectual leader of the green revolution movement.
Indira Gandhi National Integration Award
The Indira Gandhi National Integration Award is a prestigious award awarded by the Indian National Congress, honoring Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India.Beginning in 1985, this award is given annually to distinguished individuals/institutions for the promotion and enhancement of national integration and understanding among Indian religious groups, communities, ethnic groups, cultures, languages, and traditions through the thought and practice of a sense of solidarity among the community.The Awardee is selected by a Consultative Committee of eminent persons representing art, science, culture, education, literature, journalism of faith social work, law, and public life. The Award contains cash and a certificate amounting to Rs. 5 lakh.
