Swamy Athuradas passes away

Spiritual leader and founder of the Athurasramam Homoeo College at Kurichy here Swami Athuradas passed away at Amrutha hospital in Ernakulam today(15.7.2011).He was 99.
The swamy was born in Chediyattu House in Channanikadu village here on July 16, 1913 as Vasudevan Nair, the youngest son of Chediyattu Ayyappa Kurup and Kunjupennamma.
Swamy Athuradas established the Athurasramam in 1936 and was the founding president of Athura Seva Sanghom, which is registered under the Charitable Societies Act.
He dedicated himself to the service of the suffering masses, especially the sick. Considered one among the pioneers of promoting homeopathy in Kerala, he established the ANSS Homeopathy Medical College in 1958. Later, the college began a research centre. The management of the institution was transferred to the Nair Service Society (NSS) in 1978.
He also authored the books ‘The ways to Health', Ksheerapaana Chikitsa', and 'Jeevitha Darsanam.'He was instrumental in establishing 19 working women's hostels in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, in addition to schools and charitable homeopathy dispensaries.The body will be brought to Athurasramam from Kochi on Saturday morning and kept at the Medical College for the public to pay homage. His mortal remains will be consigned to flames at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the Athurasramam compound.
