The United Democratic Front (UDF) has captured the municipalities of Palai and Kalpetta in the elections to the local self governments in Kerala. It is also leading several of the municipalities 
besides the city corporations of Thrissur and Kochi. However, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is leading in larger number of panchayat wards that the UDF, as the initial results are pouring in.
Counting of votes in the elections to the local self government institutions began in almost all of the 216 counting centres across the State on Wednesday morning, excluding Kozhikode district.
