Tsunami, Volcanic Eruption Hit Indonesia

More than 130 people have been reported killed in Indonesia after a tsunami and volcanic eruption hit the island nation.
Officials said more than 110 people were killed after three-meter tsunami waves hit the Mentawai islands area, west of Sumatra, following a 7.7-magnitude earthquake late October 25.
The tsunami swept away hundreds of homes and has flooded roads and crop fields. Reports say rescuers have been battling difficult conditions in a bid to save survivors.
U.S. President Barack Obama, who spent some of his boyhood living in Indonesia, has expressed sadness over the losses and pledged U.S. help to assist recovery efforts.
Meanwhile, officials say at least 25 people have been killed from ash, hot gas and debris caused by the eruption of Mount Merapi, on the island of Java, about 1,300 kilometers east of the tsunami zone.Read more
