The youngest Bava for the Orthodox Church

As the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church is turning a new chapter by rallying around a new head of the denomination on Monday, the sect is also becoming a part of Church history by having the youngest ‘Bava’ to lead it. The ascension of Paulose Mar Milithios to the throne of St Thomas as Malankara Metropolitan and Catholicos is considered very important, when the age of his predecessors which was mostly on the higher side is taken into account. The newly elected Catholicos is a native of Pazhanji, Kunnamkulam. He is the son of the late K A Ipe and Kunjitty. Born on August 30, 1946, he completed his schooling at his native place and secured his degree from St Thomas College, Thrissur.
Later, he took his master’s in social sciences from CMS College, Kottayam. He preferred an ascetic life and turned to theological studies, which he had completed at the Orthodox Theological Seminary here and at Serampore University. He was ordained priest in 1973.
In 1982 he became an Episcopa, and three years later he took over as the metropolitan of the Kunnamkulam diocese of the Church.
