Vayalar Award 2011 for K P Ramanunni

Noted Malayalam writer KP Ramanunni has been selected for the Vayalar Rama Varma award 2011. His latest novel 'Jeevithathinte Pusthakam' (The Book of Life) is the work that won the award for him. Vayalar Award carries the sum of Rs. 25000, a certificate and a bronze sculpture designed by Kanayi Kunhiraman.
K P Ramanunni is famous among the contemporary Malayalam writers. He has won Kerala Sahitya Academi Award and a few other awards for his novel 'Sufi Paranja Katha' (What the Sufi Said). Jathi Chodikkuka, Purushavilapam are among his short story collections. 'Jeevithathinte Pusthakam' is the story of a bank employee, named Govinda Varma Raja, who is fed up of his job. The story bears some autobiographical elements, says Ramanunni. Ramanunni is now also the presider of Tunjan Smarakam in Malappuram.
Vayalar Award was instituted in 1977 by the Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Trust to be given to the best literary work each year. Vishnunarayanan Nambhoothiri was the winner of last year for his work 'Charulatha'. The jury members for the award included M Mukundan, Ummer Tharamel, Krishnanunni.
