The President, Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil today appointed Mr. Shahabuddin Yaqoob Quraishi, the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India. Mr Qureshi will assume charge of the post with effect from July 30, succeeding Mr Navin B Chawla who will demit office on July 29 on attaining the age of 65.
