Maria Roni Wins World Table Tennis championshipTitle

The Asian team included an Alappey girl Maria Roni, titled world championship in Table Tennis which held at San Juan the capital of Puerto Rico on 26.1.2012. This is the first time a Malayali girl won the title. The Asian team beat North American team in 3-1 score. World Hops team and European team gained third and fourth place respectively.
Maria was   the only girl participated in the championship from India.  She was represented the four member Asian cadet girls team age below 15. Guan Jiyan Hua a coach from Korea trained the Asian team.  Maria will also participate in the singles on Saturday.
Maria is 78 in the world ranking  in Table Tennis is the first Keralite  selected in the Asian team. The selection to the team was based on the 17 Asian junior TT championship which was held at New Delhi recently. Six continental teams including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Oceania teams and World Hops team and Puerto Rico teams were participated in the world championship.
Maria is a standard IX student of the SDV English Medium HS Alappuzha.  She won accolades in National tournament in 2008. The Indian doubles team included Maria won silver in the US open TT which was held at Milwaukee in US last year.  She also represented in the French junior and cadet open and Spanish junior and cadet open  She is practicing TT under coach Boby Joseph in the Alappuzha YMCA academy.
She is the daughter of Roni Mathew  and Reena of Kallupurackal Alappuzha.  Her brother K C Mathew is an officer with the Merchant Navy.
