Noted Kathakali artist and Padmabhushan recipient Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair passed away. He was 88, who mostly excelled in depicting the antagonists of Indian epics in the classical theatre, died at his residence at Vellinezhi in the district on11th March 2013. He is survived by his wife Saraswathi, and son Appukkuttan.
He was bestowed with many awards which included Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award, State Kathakali Award, Kerala Sangeet-Natak Academy Award, Kalidas Samman (Madhya Pradesh), Mumbai Nartak Chakravarthy, D-lit from CUSAT, Kerala Kalamandalam Silver Jubilee Medal, Sree Guruvayoorappan Award and many more Merit awards from various organizations.
