Telugu writer Ravuri gets Jnanpith Award 2012


For his contribution to Telugu literature, Eminent Telugu-writer Ravuri Bharadwaja was awarded the Jnanpith Award in 2012.

The 86-year-old writer has over 130 published works to his credit including more than 37 volumes of short stories and 17 novels among other works.
Born on 5 July 1927 to Ravuri Mallikamba and Kotaiah in Paritala Jagir village of Moguluru, under the former Hyderabad State, Mr. Bharadwaja later moved to Tadikonda village in Guntur district. His formal education lasted only until Class VIII but he received honorary doctorates from Andhra, Nagarjuna, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University from his literary prowess.
Beginning his writing career at the age of 17, he was awarded the 1968 and 1983 State Sahitya Academy Award for Literature twice, and the 1983 Central Sahitya Academy Award. He was the first recipient of the 1968 Gopichand Literary Award, and the 1987 Rajalakshmi Literature Award.
Some of the books written by Bharadwaja are now part of curriculum in colleges and schools
