Malala Yousafzai wins European human rights prize

Pakistan’s Teenage activist Malala Yousafzai, has been awarded this year’s Sakharov Prize for human rights by the European Parliament. The 16-year-old girl who was shot by the Pakistani Taliban to protect the rights of girls to education was awarded the 2013 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, awarded annually by the European Parliament, the £42,000 grant has been awarded to the 16-year-old for her 'incredible courage' in fighting for girls' right to education.
Since 1988 the European Parliament has been awarding the Sakharov Prize every year to honor Soviet scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov.
Past winners include Nelson Mandela and Myanmar activist Aung San Suu Kyi.
