Bishop Mar Peter Thuruthikonam was born on Aug. 1, 1929, in Tiruvalla, he was ordained priest in 1959 by Verapoly Metropolitan Bishop Joseph Attippetty. He has served the parishes of Thiruvanchoor, Kanjirappara, Vadavaathoor and Chengalam. He was chancellor and secretary to the bishop of the Vijayapuram diocese before being appointed as its pro-vicar general in 1971. He later became its administrator in 1987 and its bishop in 1988.For the next 18 years, he led the diocese. He fought for the rights of the marginalized people, and was always on the forefront of the struggle to ensure equality for Dalits and poor people. Though he retired officially in 2006, he continued his service to the church.
The funeral will be held at Vimalagiri Cathedral , Kottayam on Tuesday at 2 pm
