Former Karnataka Chief Minister Sarekoppa Bangarappa passed away on 26 December 2011. He was 79. Bangarappa, who was suffering from kidney related problems and a diabetic, was undergoing treatment since 7th December 2011.

He was an Indian politician and a former Chief Minister of Karnataka. He represented Shimoga constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha. He currently belongs to the Janata Dal (S). He is the founder of the Karnataka Vikas Party and Karnataka Congress Party. He was born in Kubatur village of Shimoga District in Karnataka, India. His father was the late Shri Kallappa and his mother, Kallamma. He has two sons, Kumar Bangarappa and Madhu Bangarappa. He has a bachelors degree in arts and law. He also has a Diploma in Social Science.
