The Congress-led UDF (United Democratic Front) candidate Anoop Jacob won the Piravom bypoll in Kerala on 21st March 2012. Anup Jacob, 34, son of former minister T.M. Jacob, defeated his father’s rival Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-backed M.J. Jacob with a margin of 12,070 votes. Polling in the Piravom constituency was held on 17th March with a record voter turn-out of 85.6%.
